Inuyasha is horribly overrated.

Quoted for truthery.

Unfortunatly, it falls into the category of 'fad' anime/manga along with Naruto, when a series gets overhyped and you get a bunch of morons running around going "z0mgz0rrz 4n1m3 4r3 t3h r0xx0rz!111!!1 rofl LAMO SMILEY SMILEY SHIFT"

Well, you have to give credit to Inuyasha for bringing a decent romance plot to a shounen anime, along with comedy and slight touch of shounen-ai. XD (There is, believe me, watch the later episodes.) XD

OK, Takahashi Rumiko-san is more than Inuyasha.

Anyone here ever hear of Ranma 1/2 or Maison Ikkoku or Urusei Yatsura? She knows how to do romantic/action/comedies, that's her thing! Go to Suncoast and pick up one of those manga and read it! She's been doing that kind of thing for over 20 years now!

LosingEternalLife
Nov. 1, 2004, 10:06 PM
She's stretches them out too far.

Ranma 1/2 is ok because it's just... you know, there.

Inuyasha is a story. When you drag a single story that long it just becomes monotonous.

Honestly?

Nothing.

Is it bad? No. It's good, actually, but overrated to a point of annoyance.

It's like Naruto. It's, what I like to call, an 'Anime Phase'. Series that come, generate a LOT of hype for a while, then move on to only be somewhat remembered. For some reason, these things appeal to the masses.

There's nothing really great about Inuyasha. It simply appeals to a lot of fans who latch onto it like leeches, and refuse to let go.

There are far superior series that are out/floating around that no one pays attention to.

I'm not saying Inuyasha is bad, I'm just saying it can't compare to Full Metal Alchemist/Berserk/Monster/20th Century Boys/Houshin Engi/Yakitake Japan!/etc.

Another reason it's so popular is because it's... hmm... well, everywhere basically. It's easily accesible on T.V, and it runs on forever.

Forever.

That why, eager fans always get there dosage of Inuyasha while other series simply end at 26 episodes (which is why great stuff like Trigun and Witch Hunter Robin were popular but not a 'sensation' like Inuyasha).

With the length that this series is it will continue as long as there are fans, and as it continues it will add more fans to the list.

Inuyasha offers nothing new, unique, fresh, or exciting. It has it's high points; a wonderful presentation of Japanese mythology, Naraku's twisted schemes, pretty damn good animation (for a 200+ episode series...).

In short, Inuyasha is not bad. It's just not that great. It is, overrated.

But, Lel, just because a series is overrated doesn't make it something to be disliked. It's not the series' fault that people latch onto it and start saying stuff like, "OMG OMG OMG!!!!111ONE!!!!!!!one!!!!1111 SESHOMAROO IS SSSOSOOSO HOTT!!!ONE!!!!111one!!!!1111 LIKE OMG!!!!". (And I spelled "Sesshomaru" wrong on purpose, just for the record.)

But that's just one side of the story. That's the side of the story you see if you choose to hang out with or talk to people like that.

I have friends who like Inu-yasha as much as I do, and yet, I can carry on an intelligent conversation with them about it.

I like Inu-yasha for several reasons. Okay, I admit it, I mostly love it because of the romance. ^^; But I also like the action, excitement, plot, all of Naraku's devious plans (they make it interesting), and all the interesting backgrounds of the characters. Rumiko Takahashi is a brilliant person to have created such things as Inu-yasha and Ranma 1/2. It's just her style to draw out the romance, and it's that unresolved, romantic tension that keeps people (and me) coming back.

I know that it can get a little boring and repetitive to some. But I guess it's because I grew up loving DBZ, the KING of drawn-out battles, that I have a higher tolerance for things like that. I can overlook it.

I know that once you've gotten a taste of the really, really great Animes out there, it's hard to look back on what you used to like with the same admiration. It's because your eyes have been opened to a new realm, and you've seen something you think is the best. It's human nature; we keep moving on to the next "great" thing. It's not that you don't like that "old" show just as much as this new one, although it may feel that way. It's just that your perspective has changed. We grow older. We mature. Our tastes and our views change. It's life.

Some Animes out there that are really great just aren't suitable for certain ages. There's a big difference between Chobits and Marmalade Boy, even though they both have romantic themes. Some Animes have themes and plots that are just too darn complex for younger people. And I'm not even talking about elementary school kids here; I'm talking about teenagers who can't quite grasp the stuff. It's all about your own personal tastes and level of maturity.

Anyways, what I'm trying to say is that Inu-yasha is really great. That's what I think. I know that not everyone agrees with me, and that's okay. If we all had the same opinion, it'd be pretty boring, right? I'm just trying to show what I think, and maybe bring up a point that hasn't been thought upon.

I'm done babbling for the moment. ^^;

When you hear about a hundred posts of "ZOMG!1!!!!! NAWOOTO N INUYASHA CAGOMEH IS HOTZ)RZ" you tend to get sick of it.

Especially when the series itself is decent, and not worthy of such praise.

Also, I never said I disliked Inuyasha. I watch it from times to time and find it enjoyable, actually, I do quite like it. It has it's good moments. Major problem is of the massive hype around it. In a vacuum, with no hype or anything like fans to bug me, I would enjoy Inuyasha, but it'd only be a passing thing. Maybe buy a volume or two, but nothing to spend money on.

Secondly, I talk about series with my friends (well, the ones who are also as into anime as I am... about one or two) a lot. A lot a lot. Inuyasha isn't the only series that can be talked about. I enjoy debating the philosophical reasoning of Johan in Monster with other people.

The romance is nothing new for me. For a lot people, it is (mostly because they don't have a lot of experience). Guy and girl meet, guy and girl don't get along, guy and girl fall in love. I've seen it a lot alot, and Inuyasha does nothing new or fresh with the concept.

Action, plot, background, very little of that is new or exciting. I was, however, touched by Sango's story with her brother (but it kind of ends up dragging it on...).

Naraku is devious. I'll give him that, however he pales in comparison to masterminds like Dakki, Friend, and Taikoubou. Naraku seems infinitely more clever because really, he has no equal in the series, or anyone that comes even close. Most of the protagonists merely blunder around walking strait into his plans. Now tell me, when was the last time Inuyasha tried to outwit Naraku with a plan, rather than just attacking him?

And Inuyasha does not have drawn out battles. They're nicely paced IMO. The entire series however, is drawn out. There are a lot of story arcs, characters thrown in, etc that weren't needed and just placed there to prolong the series.

And your paragraph on taste of 'better anime' is true, but it applies to everything. First off, newer=/= better (if you were implying this, if not then my mistake). It's just quality overall. Why bother wasting time with a cassette player when you can have an IPod which is pretty much superior in almost everywhere.

It's like people dusting off their WWII fightet jets and praising them as if it was Jesus incarnate when there are stuff like F-16 which are just plain betters. Is Inuyasha bad? No. But is it the B3ST 4NIM3 EVAR OLOLOOL !!!1@21!1!!? No.

Oh, and on your second to last paragraph, that's a bit... I dunno... skewered (bad word choice). Of course, a lot of the series I mentioned have complex themes. However, you'd have to be either a brain-dead monkey or an elementary schooler to not be able to understand them to a point of enjoyment.

I dunno' if I've made any sense, but yeah...

I understand where you're coming from; it made sense to me.

I can't remember if I'm agreeing or disagreeing with you on this, so I'll just say what I feel. Newer is not necessarily better. Sometimes, okay, a lot of the time, it is. Newer things reflect what's currently happening, fresh perspectives, new ways of viewing the world. We like change. We thrive on change. And we can relate to things better when they're up to speed with the rest of the world.

But sometimes the old things are better. There are plenty of old Animes (and I know you can agree with me on this) that are truly fantastic, and can be enjoyed by people for ages to come.

Actually, it's not really a "what's better" thing, more just a "what's your preference" thing. There are some truly crappy Animes out there, but there are definitely awesome ones too. That's the way the world works, really. Without the bad, what would we know is really good?

I suppose that talking to someone like me can be a little pointless. I'm less experienced than most Anime lovers, because I haven't been a fan for that long. Only a few years, really. I'm still learning, and I'm still trying to experience all kinds of different things. If my arguements seem a bit one-sided at times, it's because I'm just naive about some things. I mean, you've been into Anime for a while now, right? You have more experience; you've seen more. I'm still a student, I guess you could say. Maybe I'm even simple-minded, with being content with "less complex" things. I guess I just want Anime to be something I enjoy without having to really think hard to wrap my brain around it. I have school to stretch my brain enough, so I want my entertainment to be a little less brutal, a little simpler, I guess. I can be happy with simpler things.

Anyways, that's just my thoughts on the subject.

Lel

A lot of new animes suck.

A lot a lot.

Age is simply, not a factor.

And when you've seen as much as me, well, you just don't want to bother with 'just good' or 'mediocre' series.

Though, of course, Berserk doesn't appeal to everyone so I don't blame people if that's why they dislike it. (They should still rot in hell though).

Trigun, Bebop, Evangelion, three of my favorite animes, simply because theyre funny, sophisticated, they dont last too long, and they simply serve their purpose as a series

Inuyasha, DBZ, Naruto, Pokemon theyre all really drawn out series that go on too long and end up without a purpose!

The best anime are usually 26 episodes long, 1 season, the ideal length for the story, if it gets over 200 episodes, seriously, you should call it quits....

Lel
Jan. 21, 2005, 09:35 PM
Ehh, not quite.

I mean, the Berserk anime was only 26 episodes but it only covered a fraction of the story...

I for one, want the rest of it animated.

And unlike Naurot, Inuyasha, Ranma 1/2, or DBZ, it will not be 'dragged on'. The story is epic and wide and it would take a LONG time to cover it all. It's not collect all the jewel shards/another enemy has appeared/whatever the hell Ranma is...
