False Animes

By false anime I refer to shows of the sort of Megas XLR, Teen Titans, and Totally Spies.* Now Megas, in my opinion, is a rather good show.* It manages to poke fun at the anime style which the art was seemingly derived from, and the idea of pwning aliens with video game skills is definitely a plus on my list.

Teen Titans...not quite as good, in my opinion.* At the start of the series it was too cliche all the time, and they REALLY overused the chibi effect (I point especially to the episode with Larry, Robin's uber-ugly chibi clone).* But it, too, had its good points, such as the Terra saga.* I think the show really struts its stuff when it takes on a more serious tone, and throws in occasional humor (Best examples are the last episode of the Terra segment and the episode where Raven summons the dragon from her book).

...but someone really crossed the line with Totally Spies.* It is utterly painful for me to watch it.* The voices aggrivate me to no end, the sweatdrop appears once every three seconds, and I SWEAR their personalities are similar to that of a walnut I ate last Christmas; boring and kinda hard to swallow.* That, and the infinite plot holes really flip my switch.

For those of you who are wondering, yes, I am well informed in the shows I am commenting on.* I do not state my opinion on any show until I watch it several times, so I have an idea of its ups and downs.

Megas = Funny, witty, and a well-done mock anime.
Teen Titans = Rocky start, but it may still recover in my eyes.
Totally Spies = Might as well just can the show now.

DISCUSSION POINTS: What are your opinions on these and other false anime shows?

lol, the other day my friend was commenting on how Robin is so freaking strong in Teen Titans.
I mean seriously, If they put TT Robin against Batman, robid would pwn. Overall i'd say Teen Titans is pretty good, just really crappy everynow and then.

Robin is absurdly strong, able to physically take on Cinderblock, deliviring kicks strong enough to send a ten foot tall being composed entirely of rock flying? *Yeah, right.

Also, the show tries to make him cool. *It's Robin...

Aye, a good point. Seriously, Robin should really be the tactical leader, not the head fighter. Compared to Starfire (Who's entire species is super-strong, super-fast, and can blast things with energy), Cyborg (Who's a friggin CYBORG, thus the name XD), Beastboy (With the T-Rex and all), and Raven (Telekinetic magic r0x0rz), Robin should be a pansy.

That's why I liked the episode right after Slade's "defeat", where Robin thinks he's back; the whole episode is a whole "Oh God stop hurting me" fest. :lol:

Teen Titans is good also, again funny.

Code Lyoko....... Yeah um...... the last episode was kinda freaky at times in suspense some okayness... other than that though.... The voice actors suck.... When the girls fight they sound like they're.... well... you know... <_<

No not really shooting myself, but I can't stand the show.... or really any other show on basic cable except for maybe Shaman King which has its comedy every now and again.

I don't care what it's REAL name is; it's fake anime, and thus does not deserve any form of a witty title. :P

Anywho, I had forgotten about Code Lyoko. More or less, it's a Matrix ripoff, cept everyone's ugly and has huge-ass foreheads. The voices, it is true, are horrible, and although I never thought about it before, Oni Musha is right about the girls' fighting voices. And that is something I did NOT ever need to think about. :looove:

As for the "profanity" which you mentioned, I never saw it for two reasons:
1) It didn't truly interest me.
2) I don't really know which channel it's on.
If someone tells me what channel the "abomination" is on, I can view it and form a basic opinion.

Actually, the Japanese term for fanime would be doushinji (I think htat's how it's spelled...), which is essentially fan fiction in animated form. Stuff like 'Totally Spies' isn't doushinji, it's crap.

I liked Teen Titans, I've seen about three episodes of Megas, and so far, it's awesome. As for everything else, it probably sucks. I haven't had cable for six months now, so I've probably missed a lot.

It msut contain some of those things for it to be closer to anime.

Totally spies has none of that.

Unless I'm much mistaken, Raven and Starfire were made purely for the Teen Titans. If anyone has any knowledge otherwise, speak up.

The fact that one of the characters was turned into a cat ONCE does not, in my eyes, improve the show's enjoyability.

As for Megas...well, the guy's SUPPOSED to be a dumbass. But EVERY anime has a dumbass or two in it (More or less, anywho; there's the occasional rarity that doesn't contain one).

Code Lyoko isnt horrible, it caught my eye one day and i watch it a little(the virtual fighting world aint too bad :ww:). It wasn't as bad as TOTALLY SPIES omg horrible show.

The anime is becoming very popular...I have always wondered why the gneration slightly younger than mine is always satisfied by shows that have no ongoing storyline. I want a timeline, like in any anime or manga! :angry: THEY JUST SUCK LIKE THIS!!!! :grumpy:

By your description, Megas is an Anime.

It has Giant Robots, Aliens, Demonic-like creatures, and something that looks vaguely like Godzilla. Although who do you need to wreck Tokyo when you have Coop?

It's a Japanese board game much like Chess in that it requires an immense amount of strategic thinking to play. It's really unlike any board game out there...and it takes a long time to explain unless you've played it for yourself.

Did anyone see that ep. of Megas in which they make fun of Sailor Moon? That was hilarious, so therefore I love that show. Anime satire is great, I think Megas is starting to get up in the ranks.

Titans has the good eps. every now and then. I missed a lot of the funny ones because of my isolation/refusal to watch tv.

Lyoko and Spies will burn at my otaku hands, and then everyone will love my anime, yes, my anime, because RSOM6 will hopefully contain my manga.

It's not likely you can really say that just those are false anime. Most things nowadays use such elements.
