Default First Zelda game, vowed not to cheat.. Didn't turn out well.

I'm sort of a legend of Zelda.. to put it lightly, this is the first Zelda game I've ever tried to actually play through. Actually, cut that. Noob sounds much better.

I hope it's not ridiculous to be on a legend of Zelda forum when I'm only 2 dungeons in on my first Zelda game- Wind Waker. Any ways, I want to play more Zelda games, and if I beat this one I will hopefully be prepared for OoT, and hopefully Wind Waker will prepare me for all the strategic skills I need for other Zelda games.

Any way, I decided playing through a game without watching any Lets Play videos first is much more satisfying, so I vowed not to cheat once.

So everything was going great, and then I got to the Forbidden Forrest. UGH. I know I probably sound stupid, but I wandered around for about 4 hours after getting into every nook and cranny I could find and I still couldn't find the big key. So I gave in and watched a video to find out that stupid flower moves with the leaf.

I probably should have guessed that, but still.. My brother rage quit in this temple and never played WW again. I guess strategy game talent doesn't run in the family.

Any ways, I'm a little disappointed I gave in on cheating, if you consider watching something to tell you what to do "cheating".

I breezed through the boss though, because it was very similar to, if not easier, "Spider Queen" in Okami, my favorite game.

I still feel bad for doing that, though. Now I can't say I 100% played through my self. I probably would have never guessed the flower would move, though.

Any ways, do all of you guys play these games 100% legit? Or am I actually a normal gamer when it comes to strategic skills? This is my first Zelda game, so I suppose I could give myself credit I stuck through for so long without cheating.

Don't sweat it, Everybody used outside help their first time playing a zelda game.
I was stuck on the first dungeon of OOT until one of my cousins showed me how to light torches.

I used guides until my THIRD zelda game.

edit: wait no I totally used a guide to get the pieces of Triforce in WW
So that makes it FOUR zelda games

I think Morrowind was the last game I beat without looking up guides for. No wait, it was Black Ops. Because like, learn the buttons, then you know that all guns shoot people with bullets until they die.
In this day and age, most games require you to find external instructions, since books are either empty, written in all the languages you don't speak, or are completely irrelevant to the game.

I remember having a walkthrough for parts of OoT and pretty much all of MM. Didn't beat WW because I couldn't work out how to progress; I think TP is the only Zelda game I've ever beaten without any kind of help.

Videogames are just a hobby, so there's really no point in making the game pointlessly hard if that will only tire you. Some gamers actually look forward to the frustation and the repetition, and that's okay because that's how they enjoy their game time the most. It's up to you, really. I always try to beat the Zelda games on my own, but I recently asked my sister to beat the Silent Realm parts in Skyward Sword because I freakin' hated them.

if you couldn't get through the first temple in WW in 4 months without a guide, and then you try to play OoT...you're gonna have a bad time

Well, at least you'll know you're engaging in a long-term hobby.

I remember a time without gamefaqs and the internet in which I could get stuck on the same puzzle for months. It took me a while to defeat the extra dungeons in the Oracle series. Good times.

Skyward Sword was surprisingly easy.... was it only me? It didn't take me a long time to figure it out.
