Chapter Seventeen: Gyorg the Gargantuan Killer Fish
Late that afternoon Link and Raphael put their gear on and headed for the staging room, the room with the gates to the battle field that they had waited in yesterday. They found most of the contestants were already sitting around getting ready. As they looked around, a buff looking kid walked by Raphael, and spat: “Hey Ralph, see you survived the first round. Guess you just hid in a corner the whole time, eh?” “No, Brutus,” Raphael replied coolly, “If I recall, you were doing that.” “Well, I…” Brutus bit his tongue, “Damn it, you get me irked, Ralph.” He stomped away. “For the last time, it’s Raph, not Ralph!” Raphael shouted after him. “Old bully?” Link asked mildly. “You could say that,” Raphael replied, “After last night and the week before he’s just a nuisance to me.” They spotted Dambora and Dexter waving to them from a corner. They sat down next to them. “Good afternoon, gentlemen,” Dexter said. The diminutive scrub was polishing the edge of his trunk-like mouth, “Ready for the festivities?” “Any idea what we’re facing?” asked Link. “No, but look at the gates,” Dexter gestured to the entryways to the floor, and Link noticed they were all sealed off by metal doors. “There’s a rumor going around they filled it with water.” “The great Dambora doesn’t like to swim,” Dambora said gruffly. “Neither do Deku Scrubs,” Dexter admitted. “We’ll wait and see,” Link said. As Dexter explained to the group, he was part of a rare tribe of Deku Scrubs deep within the Faron Woods, the very last tribe of the race in Hyrule. Many had moved to other lands in search of better success. Dexter himself was a merchant, a profession many Deku Scrubs took up. However, when Dexter got wind of the Versus Magna, he knew it was a chance to give his species a boost again in the kingdom. And so he departed for Hyrule Castle. Dambora, on the other hand, was a renowned wrestling champion amongst Gorons on Death Mountain. He joined the Versus Magna simply to look for what he called “an actual challenge.” “Well,” Link said, “I think you came to the right place then.” “Well, aren’t we making friends?” They looked up. Scar was standing behind Raphael along with Spades, Bulblin, and the Darknut. “Looks like a group of ineptitude. You’ve found similar friends, forest boy.” “Likewise,” Link said, eyeing Scar’s crew. Scar put his metallic hand on Raphael’s shoulder. Raphael looked slightly alarmed. “What?” Scar said, “You didn’t think I’d remember you? I see forest boy has taken you under his filthy wings. How lovely.” “Why don’t you limit the conversation to me,” Link suggested. “You did good last night, kid,” Bulblin grunted, and Link realized he must have realized who he was, “You can’t hog the light forever though.” “Was that supposed to be a pun?” Dexter asked the hog-like Moblin, who didn’t get the insult. “Don’t dare contend with Spades the Magnificient!” Spades laughed, flicking his wrists. Flames came from his fingers, though to a careful eye it was clear he was holding matches. “Cheap trick,” Raphael noted. “Say that again on the battlefield, buddy!” Spades bellowed, “I will ace you into-,” “That will do, thank you,” Scar said. A loud bell echoed above them. “Looks like we’re about to begin, so until the swords clash…” With that, they walked away. Link and Raphael donned their helmets. “Did that Moblin talk?!” Dexter asked in bafflement. Soldiers soon came and herded the thirty or so entrants up stairs and into a small holding area that was between stands. Above them, the audience was banging the sides of the walls to get their attention. A few less than wise entrants looked up to receive drinks and other items thrown at their faces. Link and his group smartly stared forward. Ahead of them, all they could see was water that was up to where the floor had been last night. Soon a wooden raft came by via soldiers with oars, and they let a few contestants on at a time. Link’s group was one of the first to get on, and they were treated to a circle around the arena. A circle in the middle of the arena was the only ground left raised, creating an island in the center of the stadium. The water surrounding it was murky and dark, only illuminated in certain spots by the torches on the wall. Above them, the sun had already begun to set, and dusk approached. The crowd began to applaud loudly at Link’s, or Wolf’s, appearance. “Why don’t you acknowledge them?” Raphael asked, “They love you!” “They only love you as long as you’re on top, kid,” Link said. Link knew as well as anyone how easy it was for the rug to be pulled from under your boots. Link looked behind him and saw Dexter and Dambora were both glancing at the water nervously. The massive bodies of Gorons weren’t suited for swimming, and the hybrid plant physiology of scrubs meant they simply could not handle the water. Link frowned. He hoped whatever they were facing that they would be able to fight it from the island. The barged let them off on the platform and headed back for the others. After a few minutes they were all on the island. It was relatively cramped, and Link knew that once the battle started, any fights that broke out amongst contestants could lead to spills into the water. He motioned to Raphael, Dexter, and Dambora, and they moved closer to the center of the platform. From the box far above them Grand Vizier Rome stepped forward and raised his hands for silence. Zelda stood noticeably behind him. “The princess and I welcome you to the second night of the Versus Magna,” Rome said, “We have thirty contestants remaining from last night’s exhilarating round. May the second round commence!” The bell rang. The gold-donning announcer stood up from his balcony. “For the second battle of the Versus Magna, our warriors will have to contend with the legendary predator of the Maradu Seas. The grand vizier proudly presents: Gyorg the Gargantuan Killer Fish!” The crowd did not cheer like they did for Ghot. Instead, gasps and murmurs broke out amongst the stands. It was as if a chilly wind struck everyone in the audience. That’s because everyone knows what a Gyorg is, Link thought darkly. As did he: Gyorg, the most famous killer in the eastern sea, responsible for horror stories of sinking ships and entire crews devoured…The platform suddenly seemed a lot smaller. Link turned to his group. “Whatever you do, stay on this platform. Okay?” “What should we do if we fall in?” Dexter asked. “Pray to whatever you worship,” Link responded grimly, “Because you’ll be dead before you realized you had an accident.” There were ripples near one gate that was almost completely submerged in the water, and the iron bars suddenly disappeared. The ripples continued, and for a moment Link could see a row of jagged fins the color of blood surfacing before disappearing in the murky depths. The stadium was deathly quiet. Link moved closer to the center, and for a moment he thought he a great shadow moving in the water. Everyone was tightening into a group in the center of the island, leaving a decent distance between them and the water. If anyone had an intention to attack anyone else, it wasn’t a priority at the moment. There was a slight tremor, as if something had gently pressed against whatever was holding the platform up. Link desperately hoped it was sturdy. There was a greater tremor, but nothing extreme. Then someone screamed. Link looked around to see a large man falling into the water with a splash. Behind him, Spades had his arms outstretched, giggling uncontrollably. “Someone help me!” The man shouted, “Someone-,” the man’s body suddenly jerked violently, and he could barely scream before he disappeared in the water. Link thought he saw blood in the murkiness. No one moved. Then there was a tremendous thud, so hard the platform tilted, and everyone braced themselves. One man came close to falling in, managing to use his hands to stop himself from going in head-first. He looked up at the others in relief when great jaws burst from the water, closing around him. There was a splash, and nothing was left. Another great thud and Dambora fell towards the edge. “Help me!” he shouted. “Dambora!” Link cried, and he and the others grabbed one hand as the Goron was partially submerged. He’s not going to make it, Link thought. But Gyorg did not attack Dambora. Instead, there was a great explosion of water somewhere behind them, drawing screams from the crowd. Others collided with Link, Dexter and Raphael so hard that they all fell in. There was a second splash on the opposite side of the platform, and Link realized with horror that Gyorg had breached. It could jump out of the water! Now everyone was shoving frantically to reach the platform. Those still on the platform, including Scar and his lackeys, refused to help the others. Link tried to reach for the platform, but someone on the platform kicked him in the head, and he found himself falling back. Near him, someone screamed and was dragged under. Link tried to reach ground again, but his heavy armor was pulling him under, and Link couldn’t take it off in time. He gave one last push to stay up before a great splash sent him into the depths. Raphael managed to reach ground in time to see Brutus kicking those trying to get back to the floor… including Link and the others! Raphael had to do something. Drawing his boomerang, he called out, “Hey Brutus, catch!” His old rival had just enough time to turn his head to receive a full facial of the boomerang. Brutus fell on his back, and was trampled by those crawling back to safe haven. Brutus stood up and regarded Raphael. “You shrimp, always getting in my way,” Brutus said, standing by the water’s edge. He gave a howl of pain as the boomerang smacked him across the back on its return flight. “Just shut up and get to the center,” Raphael said as he caught his weapon. “You don’t tell me what to do,” Brutus said. He kicked Dexter with his foot as he came up, and the scrub fell back into the water. “Brutus you dolt, I’m serious, we need to work together!” “Work together!” Brutus laughed, “What are you, some sort of-,” That was all Brutus said, because in the next moment there was a wave behind him. Raphael fell to the floor, and a great shadow passed over his head. Raphael looked up just in time to see Brutus’ fate, white and contorted with mortal pain, partially obscured by the jaws of the great fish. Then there was a splash as Gyorg completed its jump, and Brutus was gone in a pool of blood. Raphael shut his eyes. “Well,” Dexter said as he got back to firm terrain, “That was… brutal.” Raphael got up and looked around wildly. “Where’s Dambora?” he cried, “Where’s Link?!” A razor sharp card came whizzing past, and Spades and Bulblin came at them. Raphael threw his boomerang at the magician, who ducked under it. Dexter spat seeds at Bulblin, who growled at their ineffectiveness. “Spades has a trick for you,” Spades announced, taking off his top hat. He faced the bottom of it towards Raphael. A hand came out holding an arrowette shooter. Raphael was perplexed for a moment before he realized it was Spade’s hand reaching through a hole in that hat’s top. But as Spades shot, Raphael’s weapon hit him across the neck on its return arc, and the arrowettes hit the ground harmlessly. Raphael took another throw. Behind them, the rest of the group were trying to force one another into the drink. The mighty Darknut sent a person into the water halved with his great sword. Raphael didn’t see Scar either. He wondered if the Zora had met his demise. As he dodged a shot from Spades, he thought I have to save Link! Somewhere below the action unfolding above, Link and Dambora pitted themselves within the criss-cross framework of metal beams holding up the platform above them. Link had undone his armor and had tossed it and his helmet aside: he would rather risk having his identity exposed than to fall to the floor of this death lake. Gyorg appeared out of the fog and shoved its heard through the beams, trying to reach them. Just feet away from the monster, Link could discern it clearly. Its red body was massive and was lined with green stripes, the same color of its lifeless eyes. Two ragged horns adorned its head, so close they could have tore at Link’s side. The beast opened its jaws so wide that it could have swallowed Link whole. He could see the serrated teeth. They looked like knives. Yet the structure was mercifully strong, and Gyorg could not reach them. But as long as the great fish stayed where it was, Link and Dambora would be trapped, and they would eventually drown. They had already been submerged for at least a minute. Link could already see Dambora was looking faint, and Link’s own vision was beginning to blur. He knew he had another thirty seconds at best, and then he would lose consciousness, and likely drift into the jaws of the predator in front of them. There was no other immediate space in the position they were in. They were trapped. Then Gyorg twisted its great body and came free of the support. There was a small gash on its side where a cloud of blood flowed. Link saw Scar shoot by, his mech-arm glistening. The Zora was of course perfectly adapted to the aquatic situation. Had Scar done this to save him? Of course not, Link thought, he was simply trying to gain glory for himself. Nevertheless, Gyorg chased Scar away into the fog, and it gave an opportunity for escape. Grabbing Dambora’s arm, Link swam up out of the support and towards the surface. They breached, gasping for air. Link managed to pull Dambora to shore. “Are you okay?” he asked Dambora. “I’m fine, but I don’t think I’ll be of much help fighting that thing,” Dambora said. At the center of the arena the contestants were fighting, most notably Raphael, Dexter, Spades and Bulblin. Link saw Gyorg’s fin breach on the far side of the lake, and he realized he had an opportunity. “Help them out,” Link said to Dambora, “I’m going back.” “You’re what?” The Goron said, but Link had already fallen back into the water. Link drew his sword and swam close to the supports. He could see two shapes in the distance. As he came around the beams, they got closer, and he saw Scar backpedaling against Gyorg, towards the wall. The Zora tried to slash the fish with his claws, but he was cornered. Seeing the fish was distracted, Link rushed forward and slashed out with his sword, hitting Gyorg near the eye. The fish turned around in its own blood, and apparently unharmed, shot at Link. Link dove downward, hitting the metal floor of the arena’s basement. He could see a wire mesh covering what was presumably a drain. Too bad my firecorn won’t work underwater, Link thought. He tried slashing it with his sword, but it had no effect. He found Gyorg coming at him, and Link looked around desperately for cover. He saw a small hole in the wall and swam through it, looking back to see Gyorg’s eye filling the space. Link swam through darkness… until he hit air. Breathing, he looked around wildly in the dark, seeing he was in a small shaft that was probably a duct. He was about to look for a way to climb up when a cold, iron hand grabbed him. Link turned around, raising his sword. “Calm down,” a drawling voice said, and Link realized it was Scar. There was an awkward silence, and Link realized that he had just saved his nemesis’ skin a few moments ago. Scar probably didn’t know how to handle it. “That beast knows no pain,” Scar said, “Weapons will have no effect on it.” “Did you see the mesh on the floor?” Link asked, “If we could get rid of that, the floor would probably drain. I tried using my sword though, didn’t work.” “Of course they’d reinforce it,” Scar said. “The only thing that could probably destroy it is the fish.” “We can bait into smashing it!” Link realized. “I’ll gladly let you be the bait,” Scar said. “Neither of us has to be,” Link replied. He took out a small bag from his belt, “I thought ahead.” Scar looked at the bag and then smirked. “Sometimes, forest boy, you feign intelligence.” Raphael felt a searing pain in his shoulder as one of Spade’s projectiles made its mark. The lunatic let out a giggle, taking one hand to quiver his mustache. “Come on kid, enjoy it! It’s only pain!” Nearby, Bulblin nearly hit Dexter with his battle axe, slashing the floor instead. “Your aim is deplorable!” Dexter cried. A moment later he gave a shout as he just leapt over a swing from Bulblin. Spades raised his shooter again when Dambora suddenly lunged at him, a single punch sending Spades reeling. “How dare you!” Spades said. Dambora was about to give him another hit when the Darknut came charging his way, sword swinging. Dambora ducked the slash and tried to punch the warrior, but instead he grunted in pain as his knuckles harmlessly bounced off the Darknut’s armor. Raphael moved to help one of his friends out when he sensed someone coming from behind. He turned to see a shirtless man with long hair swinging a mace at him. Raphael ducked it and threw his boomerang at the man. The mace man simply sidestepped it, swinging his mace for a second strike. “Is Link okay?” Raphael shouted in Dambora’s direction as he dodged the swing. “I don’t know!” Dambora replied, rolling aside the Darknut’s slashes. “I don’t see how he could have stayed under this long.” There was a splash, and everyone instinctively hit the floor. Gyorg’s head reached over onto the platform, biting and chewing air as it desperately tried to grab someone with its mouth. It was so strong it began to tilt the platform toward it, and Raphael found himself sliding down, right towards that mouth. “Raph!” Dambora cried. Raphael tried to reach out for anything, but it of no use. He was merely feet away, and all Gyorg would have to do is reach down, and it would all be over. But instead, the fish paused, and then abruptly dove back into the water. “What’s it doing?” Dexter asked aloud moments before Bulblin tried to sneak up on him. Raphael was about to ask the same question when the mace man and Spades charged his way, and the battle resumed. Link saw the great shape grow in size, and he knew it had worked. He and Scar quickly darted in opposite directions, but Gyorg ignored them. Instead of following its eyes, it followed its nose, heading straight for the chum smeared all over the wire mesh in the floor. Gyorg opened its great jaws, hitting it hard. There was a snap, and as Gyorg loosened itself, Link found everything start to go in a swirl. The force of the water was so great he saw the platform support snap as well, and soon the water was filled entirely with debris. It was a wild whirlpool. Link looked desperately for something to hang on to, but there was none. All he could do was wait it out as everything got lower and lower. Finally, he felt ground, and he knew the water was getting lower and lower. It was all over. Gyorg came out of nowhere, its jaws opening right around Link. He reached for his sword, but realized he lost it in the draining. He was completely defenseless as the killer fish began to shut its rows of teeth. It might die, Link thought, but I’m going to go down with it. Then Gyorg gave a gurgled protest, and when hurtling away. It hit the far wall so hard its blood smeared across the brick as it slid to the floor, falling in a torn heap, its body twitching. In front of Link, Dambora lowered his arms, grinning. “I’ll take that thing on dry ground any day,” Dambora said as he helped Link up, “Are you okay little man?” “I’m fine,” Link replied, “Thank you for that.” All those that had remained on the platform were sliding to the floor, as the platform was now bent and on a slant above the ruined structure. He could hear the wild crowd somewhere far above. He could see Dexter and Raphael were still fighting, which meant the bell hadn’t gone off yet. Perhaps those above didn’t realize what had happened yet? It didn’t matter at the moment, because Link saw a man with a mace about to connect with Raphael, who was too busy fighting the magician to notice. Link charged, picking up his sword from the floor. The mace man lowered his weapon and tried to parry Link’s swing, but Link cut the handle in half, as well as gashing the man across the leg. He fell to his knees in a howl. Spades swung on Link, laughing as he drew a card that slashed Link’s side. Snarling, Link kicked outwards, and Spades fell onto his back. Link held his sword at Spade’s throat, and the magician suddenly looked terrified. Above him, Link could hear cries of approval. He thought he heard a chant of “kill him!” Link lowered his sword just as the bell rang. Spades got up, a look of gratitude on his face before he slipped away. Link glanced at the mace man, who had obviously been eliminated, when he noticed his helmet nearby, somehow intact. He quickly slipped it on just as the announcer spoke. “Gyorg the Gargantuan Killer Fish was officially finished off by… The Mighty Dambora. The innovative destruction of the draining system appears to have been done by… the assassin Scar and Wolf!” The crowd erupted in applause, and soldiers came down, ushering Link, Dambora, and Scar up onto the remains of the platform. Dambora pounded his chest and pointed up to what appeared to be a gang of Gorons somewhere high up in the stands, chanting his name. Scar gave a dismissive wave with his mech-hand. For the first time, Link suddenly felt a rush he hadn’t experienced due to the crowd’s response. He heard them chant his pseudo-name, and he realized that, despite how hard Rome and Zelda had tried to make sure Link could never do it again, Link was accomplishing something, and he was winning over people. The entire rush caused Link to lift his blade and point it high into the air. The crowd boomed in response of their favorite contestant. "Long live impudence. It's my guardian angel in the world." --Einstein Last edited by Wrath Mania : May. 31, 2007 at 01:14 AM. |

Best chapter of the whole thing. I can think of very few Zelda monsters that can give me nightmares. Gyorg is one of them. You just made the nightmares worse.
Masterfully done. |

I wonder who would win in a battle between Gyorg and Jaws.
Food for thought. Another awesome installment in the saga of Link! <3 ![]() I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself. A bird will fall frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself. D. H. Lawrence |

Chapter Eighteen: Cucco the Diminutive Creature
The next night Link and friends found themselves facing their worst foes yet: a pack of unruly, vicious, relentless cuccos. Warrior after warrior fell in bloody pain. "There's...too...many...of them!" An oriental contestant screamed before going down in a blaze of avian glory. "Link! We're screwed!" Raphael said. "Hold on," Link said, "I have an idea." Suddenly, he slashed Dambora across the midsection, a killing blow. The Goron fell to the ground, his guts spilling out. "What the hell?!" Raphael shouted. Link took Dambora's intestines and lassoed all the cuccos. Up in the royal box, Viceroy Gunray stamped his foot next to the grand vizier, furious. "She can't do that!" He pointed out, "Shoot her.... or something!" Despite the fact Link was not a she, he continued to own the cuccos. Meanwhile, Dexter died of dysentry. "Scar!" Gunray said next to the Zora, who was wearing a Mandalorian Helmet, "Finish her off!" "Patience Viceroy," Rome assured, "Patience. She will die." Suddenly, a squad of droidekas rolled out of the gates, surrounding Link and Raph. It looked grim. Rome and his feinds were so busy watching the action they didn't notice the African Ass Kicker sneaking up from behind. Suddenly, an amythest blade was pointed at Scar's throat. Rome turned around. "Master Windu," Rome soothed, "So pleasant of you to join us." "THIS PARTY'S OVER." Suddenly, the stadium exploded with Jedi. It was ****ing crazy. Like, tons of them. Yet they all got overwhelmed by cuccos. Wtf? It wasn't looking good. Until suddenly, Raphael pointed up and said "Look!" Out of nowhere, a Republic gunship flew in carrying a platoon of clonetroopers. Aboard it, the diminutive Master Yoda bellowed a cryptic command: "Around the survivor, a permiter, create!" The pilot looked around in bewilderment. He screamed, "I DON'T UNDERSTAND!!!!" Panicking, he veered the ship straight into our heroes. The explosion left no survivors. -THE END- ****The next real chapter will be up shortly *********"Long live impudence. It's my guardian angel in the world." --Einstein |

Here's the REAL chapter
![]() Chapter Eighteen: Scheming Spades “Congratulations gentleman. You have made it this far,” Captain Baldwin spoke to the contestants shortly after the battle in the staging room. Despite only having completed the second stage of the Versus Magna, over two-thirds of those that had entered had been eliminated, through injury or worse. Now only eighteen remained, clearly those that were true warriors and that were worthy to participate. They all listened intently as Baldwin delivered a special announcement. “There has been a last minute change in scheduling. There will not be a round tomorrow evening. Instead, the grand vizier is planning a mandatory reception for all of you, in the townsquare. He wants to meet those of you remaining, especially those of you who have been big players in the event,” when murmurs of disinterest broke out amongst the warriors, Baldwin said, “It’s an honor to meet the grand vizier. Please be respectful and show up presentably.” He turned away. Link frowned. Raphael turned to him and voiced what he had been thinking. “You’re going to have to meet the grand vizier,” he noted. “I know,” Link said. He wouldn’t be able to wear his armor either, not if he had to dress presentably. Plus, what if Zelda was present as well? It would create all sorts of problems. “What are you going to do?” Raphael asked. “Damned if I know,” Link replied, “I’ll figure it out tomorrow. I’m pretty worn out right now.” The entrants were beginning to disperse. Dambora and Dexter decided to go out for a drink, but Link, not wanting to attract more attention then he was now irrevocably going to receive, decided to go back to his quarters. Raphael predictably followed suit. As they were walking Raphael noted Spades sulking in the corner with his unsavory companions. He was staring at Link with a particular loathing. Above them, the exiting crowds could still be heard chanting Link’s pseudonym. “You’re making fans fast,” Raphael said. Link said nothing. He had indeed felt an electric connection with the crowd earlier, something that had sparked a fire in him. But he wasn’t going to let it go to his head. It meant nothing in the long run. “Let me ask you something,” Raphael said as they exited the room, “Why didn’t you finish him while you had the chance? Or at least injure him so he’d be out of the tournament?” “A few days ago I questioned myself if I had good enough judgment anymore to use a sword,” Link replied. “Well, I guess you do then.” As they reached their cell in the grimy hall, Raphael added, “But are you going to act the same way when you meet the grand vizier?” Link didn’t answer him. Later that night Scar, Spades, Bulblin and the Darknut sat in a less than appealing tavern on the other side of town. The place was known for being a hive for scum, yet the bartender was eyeing this particular group nervously. It was a shady foursome that all had ties to the criminal underworld. Spades was clutching his hands, staring into his mug. Bulblin was noisily eating his meal, his massive body nearly shoving the table with each gorging bite. Next to him, the Darknut sat without its armor, exposing its canine-like face. It was surprisingly small without its gear. Finally, Scar sat a distance away from everyone else, looking surly. “That boy is stealing the limelight from Spades, from all of us!” Spades snarled. Throughout the night, they had heard citizens talk of the boy endlessly. “Wolf the Merciful, they’re calling him now! Because he spared Spades!” “He has always been a pain,” Bulblin said between tearing chunks of meat from a cooked cucco. “He should regret sparing Spades,” Spades said, tenting his fingers. He leaned forward conspiratorially and said lowly, “What if he was to have a… accident?” Bulblin laughed, bits of food coming out of his mouth. “I like accidents,” he mumbled. “So did I,” Spades agreed, looking excited, “And I have the perfect plan.” “Forget it,” Scar said as he stared into space, “Killing the boy means nothing.” “Nothing?” Spades said in bewilderment, “He’s been a nuisance to us from square one. Getting him out of the way would pave the road for our victory!” “Don’t delude yourself. Killing the boy wouldn’t guarantee anything. It would be a foolish risk.” “Foolish?” Spades protested, “Scar, Spades has known you for a while, and this isn’t like you. Have you softened just because you worked with the kid tonight? Because he saved you against that oversized bass?” “Don’t test my patience.” “Well then, what’s the problem? Because it seems like you’re afraid to-,” Scar grabbed Spades by the neck from across the table. His mech-hand thrust the magician so hard his top hat fell to the floor. The group had gone still; even Bublin had paused from eating. The bartender looked on, terrified. “Alright you stupid son of a b itch,” Scar hissed slowly, “Let’s be very clear. The only reason I forged a partnership with you is that despite your lunacy you seem to have some form of competence. Don’t make me change my mind,” he squeezed tightly and Spade’s face went even redder than usual, “Forget about the boy. Are we clear?” “C-c-crystal,” Spades gagged. Scar released Spades, who clutched the table gasping for air. With that, Scar stood up, threw scant rupees on the table, and walked out. The silent Darknut soon got up and followed. Spades waited long after they left, massaging his neck. Then he looked at Bulblin as he picked up his top hat. “That thug,” Spades muttered as he adjusted his hat, “He thinks so highly of himself. He isn’t the boss of us,” he lowered his voice even further. “Are you still with Spades?” “Why not,” Bulblin said as he continued to eat. “Good. Spades knows how we can ensure an embarrassing death for the boy in the next battle.” “How?” Bulblin asked. Spades stroked his mustache, “The reception will be the perfect opportunity to set it up.” A shorty after that mammoth last night. We'll have more tommorow. COMMENTS? "Long live impudence. Here's my comment:
MALINK WILL BITE SPADES HEAD OFF FOR BEING AN ASS. MALINK FEELS THIS IS A GOOD CHOICE OF ACTION. That was my comment. Up above this sentence. Yeah, that one. ![]() I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself. A bird will fall frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself. D. H. Lawrence |
